Topic: Conversion-Citric Acid Materials in Regeneration Engineering

Speaker: Yang Jian, , Assistant to the President of Westlake University and Professor in the College of Engineering and the College of Life Sciences

Introduction:

Citric acid, an intermediate in the Krebs cycle, is a versatile, non-toxic, readily available, and inexpensive basic chemical for the design of citrate-based biomaterials. Utilizing the multifunctional properties of citrate in chemistry and inspired by its important biological role in the human body, a class of highly versatile and functional citrate-based biomaterials and small molecule materials have been developed. The presentation focuses on the emerging frontiers of citrate-based biomaterials, including citrate chemistry for the design of new biomaterials, the modulation of cellular metabolism, immune responses and stem cell metabolism regulation and their applications in regenerative engineering. The technological translation of citrate biomaterials is described and prospects for their development are provided..
